About Aidan

I’ve been practicing photography since 2020, when I picked up a used camera and macro lens with no expectations of where they would take me. By turning my focus towards the smaller organisms among us, I sparked both old and new interests that have allowed me to experience and photograph some of the incredible biodiversity that exists in Washington State and abroad.

Outside of photography, I am pursuing a Master’s of Entomology at Washington State University, where I’m studying the pollinator fauna of the endangered flower Spalding’s Catchfly (Silene spaldingii). I also serve on the board of the Washington Native Bee Society, educating the public and conserving the 700 or so species of native bees in Washington. I am also an instructor with the Washington Bee Atlas, a project that trains and partners with volunteers to identify and map all existing native bee species in every county in the state.

While I post most of my work on Instagram, I find that it’s not the ideal platform for enjoying this type of photography. The details and colors cannot be fully appreciated on small screens and being run through compression algorithms. I hope this platform will provide a better experience for all who visit. Enjoy!
